My names Kealey and i happened to pop into the JACS health food store in stayner today and met a lovely lady named Jennie who had told me about yourself, your book and your amazing recipes! After checking out your website, i figured it would be a chance for me to write you a message. I myself have just today registered for the first part in completing my diploma in advanced nutrition, to become a registered holistic nutritionist once I've completed all 4 courses. I have become more and more interested in holistic nutrition over this past while and am very excited to get started in this new field I have grown passionately about quickly. I seem to find myself researching and reading more about this field and can't wait to get started on my course. I am hoping to make it to stayner in February to hopefully get to meet you in person!

I have chosen to compost over a year ago. In fact, I have composted for many years using the traditional black bin. Now I have moved forward to Worm Composting. Worm composting is very easy, doesn't smell is taken care of monthly, and uses up all raw vegetable and fruit scraps from the kitchen. This process has eliminated almost 1/2 of my kitchen waste. Along with our recycling of plastics, pager, aluminum, we now have very little gargabe each week. In fact it would take us at least a month to fill a garbage can with waste.

Worms live outside in a plastic bin, with venting holes in top, bottom and sides of the bin. Bedding is composed of shredded newspaper, or what they like the most is the shredded paper from my office. Yes, they even compost paper. They are fed weekly, kitchen scraps are kept in a plastic bag in the fridge for up to 10 days, when the amount reaches approximately a quart of scraps the worms are topped up with the new food, some additional paper, etc.

Once per month, the compost is removed, preserving as many of the worms as possible for the bin and a new bed is created. 1/3 dry paper, the worms and some of the left over compost, 3 cups of fresh dirt, 1/3 of sand as worms require sand to digest their food similar to birds. Add new food to the bin. Top with 1/3 of slightly damp shredded newspaper. (Soak newspaper in water, wring out and separarte an spread on top of new dirt, sand and new food scraps. Lay a few sheets of newspaper over the damp shredded newspaper and replace lid on bin. Each month I am rewarded with fresh compost for my garden. As stated in the initial article it is (black gold).

In winter as temperature drops below 4 degrees Celsius worms move indoors to the garage up against the house, off the floor where it is warmest until the spring. I continue composting over the winter and bucket the compost until I am ready to plant flowers and vegetables and the ground is thawed above 4 degrees. To transition them back outside they go out in the day and come in at night. Worms do not like a lot of heat, can stand up to 20 degrees, so I keep them in an area that receives some sun, but also some shade. In the heat worms can consume up to two quarts of vegetable matter per week. They like an home that is warm and moist, not wet.

Its easy and the results are fast.

I wanted to drop you a quick note and thank you for your book. The information you delivered has tremendously impacted my life as I have drastically reduced my acid causing habits (booze, cigs and coffee) and given a serious boost to my alkaline intake. Everywhere I go nowadays I have a stainless steel water bottle in tow full of lemon water.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been training harder at the gym than usual, have already lost 15 pounds and have witnessed dramatic changes in my body composition and energy levels.

I have studied health and healthy living for years and something about your book really put the icing on the cake (even though I don’t eat cakes anymore) and helped me funnel a lot of previously acquired knowledge into a direct application of results. During the process, I have become a raving fan of Salba and Mum’s hemp to everyone I know.
